Day 42

I adore moss. Even after more than two years here, it is still such a novelty.

I didn't even notice the quarter in the dirt until I loaded the pictures onto the computer. That would have been handy for laundry tonight.

Day 41

Still-life of wind-up sushi (ebi - yum!) and a Japanese bell (the sound of which is supposed to help cool one down in the summertime).

Monday, September 28, 2009

Day 40

Back to school tomorrow.

Sunday, September 27, 2009

Day 39

Chuck's tail was lashing so much that it was a blur in every photo. The kitties like an open window.

Saturday, September 26, 2009

Day 38

Matt's record collection - a work in constant progress.

The framed Beatles records are mine, though, as are a few of the ones on the shelf.

A red chair day, today.

Day 37

The perfect cookie.

Breakfast of champions.

Thursday, September 24, 2009

Day 36

Matt left the door to his closet open for a little while, and when I went to look for Chuck some time later, guess where he was?

Wednesday, September 23, 2009

Day 35

I have a Chuck Taylor image I actually like quite a bit better up on my flickr, but alas, I didn't take it today.

Tuesday, September 22, 2009

Day 34

Funny, peely tree on my walk home. I think it might be a birch, because it's peely, but the other birches I've seen have been white, so I don't really know for sure.

Day 33

One of my favourite parts of walking home from the Pearl is the sight of these buildings, and the traces of the kitchen equipment names still visible on the bricks.

Day 32

Powell's downtown from the window of our car late on a Sunday night, driving home from dinner at a friends' house.

Saturday, September 19, 2009

Day 31

I love fall foliage - so not a pretty phrase for something so lovely. In Japanese, it's called "kouyou," and it's seriously amazing.

So are the boots I am wearing in this picture - they are my favourites, and I am so glad that it is getting cold enough to wear them again!

Day 30

I was attempting to go through a few cookbooks this evening and do a little menu planning, but Chuck was insisting on having my full attention, so I took picture of him instead.

And I swear this is not going to be 365 Days of Cat Photos - just a little low on inspiration, these past few days.

Day 29

Matt and Taylor learn to share the ottoman.

Please forgive the terrible background - this is the one remaining messy corner in our otherwise very clean apartment. Promise.

Wednesday, September 16, 2009

Day 28

It is totally fall. To celebrate, I am baking an apple pie.

Tuesday, September 15, 2009

Day 27

Chuck, on the other hand, has not only discovered the box for the ottoman, but also the ottoman itself.

Monday, September 14, 2009

Day 26

We thought we were getting an ottoman. Apparently, we got an Ikea box for Taylor to lounge on.

Do cats always have a thing for boxes and bags and the like, or are our cats just strange?

Day 25

Post is late, photo was on time!

Playing around a bit with reflection at my parents' place before we left this morning.

Saturday, September 12, 2009

Day 24

This is my puppy, Cedar. She lives with my parents now, so I only get to see her occasionally, whenever we go to visit them. She's getting rather old, now, but she still manages to curl up into a tiny ball when she sleeps. She doesn't like to be photographed, and was continually turning her face away from the camera.

Day 23

We went to the beach south of Palo Alto today. The fog was in, making everything just fade into grey. This is my favourite kind of beach - cold and grey and rocky, just a little desolate.

Day 22

Friend's metalworking studio in Berkeley.

And I know this photo is late, but I have a good excuse - it is (was) my birthday, and we had a fantastic meal at Chez Panisse, which was faintly distracting in terms of getting to a computer before midnight.

Wednesday, September 9, 2009

Day 21

We are on vacation in the Bay Area for the next few days, visiting my parents. In celebration, I have blue toenails and bare feet. Updates should continue, however, as I have computer access.

Tuesday, September 8, 2009

Day 20

Like I said before, it is almost impossible to catch Taylor looking cute on film. She is adorable and has an appealingly lopsided calico face (half a mustache - it's totally awesome), but she's always getting distracted, or squirming around too much because she thinks you're going to rub her belly. She really should have been a dog...

Day 19

Lunch. Salad of red leaf, cucumber, carrot, cherry tomato and slightly over-toasted walnuts with balsamic-mustard dressing, and goat cheese toasts with homemade sourdough.

Day 18

Apparently, it's fall.

Anyone heard of The Red Tree by Shaun Tan?

Saturday, September 5, 2009

Day 17

Last minute fun with proportions and slightly dusty guitars.

Friday, September 4, 2009

Day 16

Waited until too late to have any sort of natural light, and so today is Moodily Lit Chuck Picture Day.

Off to a show - whee!

Thursday, September 3, 2009

Day 15

This is what Matt did to his breakfast this morning: sourdough pancakes with blackberries (and peaches, optional) and maple syrup and bacon.

Day 14

Overdue post, but on time picture, I promise.

These bracelets were my Christmas present from Matt this past year. They came into the shop in October - a pair of Victorian bangles with the original owner's name engraved on the inside. I fell instantly and wildly in love, and I told Matt about them after work, hesitating to buy them because we were supposed to be saving money for a trip to Japan, and let him talk me out of buying them.

When I went back to work a couple of days later, they were gone, and I proceeded to mourn them until Christmas, when I found them under the tree.

I love surprises.

Day 13

Peaches. Yum.

There may be handpies tomorrow, if I can get my act together. I've had my eye on these for a while. Matt doesn't care for peaches much, so I guess it'll be up to me to eat them.
